Our June weather has been rainy but between the rain we've had some great catches on Brown Bear lake. Fishing guests have had some great catches of smallmouth bass on lower and upper Midway lakes. Fish have mostly been up close to shore with some of the bigger ones out in deeper 10 feet of water. New hot bait has been frozen shiners which bass have been gobbling up like candy.

September 2014
Ontario pike fishing along with walleye fishing this time of year has been very good. The fish have been scattered and in depths between 5 to 30 feet of water. Beauty lake has produced some really nice lake trout this year. All were released to be caught another day.
August 2012
August has been a great time of year for the bass fishing. We've had some 20" fish caught with many guests reporting multiple follow ups.
Pike have been consistent all season and we've had guests net a 43" pike. Walleye is Robin lake have been biting very consistently as well as on the main lake. Worms have been the bait the fish prefer this season outdoing leeches and minnows.

May 2012
Early season started out great as we had some good sized walleye caught & released. Bass were a bit slow but definitely picked up later in May. A nice sized 40" pike was also caught & released to fight another day
July 20/2011 July Brown Bear lake Fishing
Walleye fishing on main Brown Bear lake has been really great for the month of July as well as the portage lake. Usually it is a little slower during the hot days of July.
Smallmouth Bass fishing has turned on in the last three weeks with some great fish caught and released in the lakes.
Biggest Walleye was 29" and biggest pike so far to date was 40" on Brown Bear system.
Largest smallouth was 20".
There is still lots of time to beat these lengths and the smallmouth fishing is really great during August when they are schooled together and you get multiple fish biting at the same time.
We've had a couple of fish caught and a big pike comes along and bites the fish being pulled in.
Fishing Lures that have been working have been crank baits, leeches with twistertail, jigs with a leech, spoons for the pike. Also leeches have been outfishing minnows and worms all year long. Typically they work great during hot months and minnows work better May and June.
June 25/2011 Brown Bear Fishing
June 2011 has been cold and wet so far with a few good sunny days to warm up the lakes.
Trout fishing on Beauty lake has been excellent, with the fish fairly deep. Smallmouth Bass have just started to get on beds with the males up in the shallower sandy flats and the bigger females out in deeper water. Walleye are hanging out in the shallower mud bays where the "May Flies" are just starting to hatch in 4 to 6 feet of water. They have been suspended if water is deeper. Minnows and leeches have been working very well but minnows especially for the walleyes. Fishing Lures working for the walleyes are silver/blue crank baits no longer than 3" or 4", to match the hatch size. Twister tails and jigs are working well also.
April 8/2011 Spring Thaw?
I'm sure spring is coming??? Last year the ice was off Pickerel Lake today, April 8th, and we we're getting ready to have airplanes in water. This year there's no chance of that happening as we still have a good foot of ice out there, although the snow is almost off the ice and we a predicted to have some rain for a couple of days which will get rid of the snow and ice.
We have lots to do to get cabins ready. Andy is coming back to fly for us this year for those of you who remember him from last season.
August 23/2010
Brown Bear lake is still quite warm and fishing has been good this time of year for late season walleyes, some monster pike but not many people have wandered over to fish for Lake Trout on Beauty Lake or into Robin Lake for Walleyes. Water levels have settled down and remained fairly consistent which helps for the walleye fishing especially. Bear hunters got a brute this season but will post about it on www.gopickerel.com/pages/recent-news.php .
Fishing July 29/2010
Brown Bear lake has been hot for the lunker walleyes this season. Also some really nice sized lake trout have come from Beauty lake a couple of weeks ago. Main lake has been good for smallmouth bass and some beauties have been caught and released for others to catch.
June 29/2010
Fishing in early part of season was great for smallmouth bass. They spawned and were pretty beat up, but recovered quickly. Walleyes were hot and hot baits used were spinner baits with red on them or other baits included crank baits like the X rap and deeper diving crank baits like husky jerks about 4" maximum in length. Trout were in about 20 to 25 feet and they like the white flukes and round headed jigs. Northern pike were caught with just about anything. but especially spoons.
May 29/2010
We had our first group of guests in to Brown Bear lake this past week. They had a great time and caught a very nice 38" lake trout, some 20" smallmouth bass and various sizes of walleyes. The bass were up very shallow and we figure that they are staging before the spawn.
The ice on the lakes did go out very early this year, April 8th, and so they have warmed up quite a bit. Brown Bear lake was pretty high with some of the rain we've had but has since gone back almost to normal levels.
I'll be posting pictures as soon as I can get them
